The Wellingsbüttel estate was first mentioned in 1296 and was an imperial-free Wellingsbüttel manor until 1806, the area of which was incorporated into Hamburg in 1937 by the Greater Hamburg Act. In the 19th century, the Wellingsbüttel estate and the Jauch manor house became a center of Hanseatic life among the Hamburg bourgeoisie.
The listed ensemble of manor house with the gatehouse on the Alster, which was built seven years later, is now located in the middle of the protected Alster Valley.
