La Rambla del Avenque is part of the historic site of the Sierra Minera, an area that the Carthaginians and Romans already exploited for their silver and lead resources.

This abandoned mining complex is one of the best preserved in the region. You can see remains of old headframes (structures located on a vertical well to support the pulleys), ovens, chimneys, powder magazines or mineral laundries.

The ruins include remains of old buildings, engine houses, chimneys and tunnels, some of which have fallen apart and are overgrown by vegetation. Some of the old machines and equipment are still on site and bear witness to the difficult working conditions and the level of technology at the time. Particularly impressive are the rusted chimneys and ore processing plants that stand in the landscape like ghosts from a bygone era. A real experience!

The region has a long history of mining, dating back to Roman times. Several mountains were formed by the extensive mining work. You can find remains of shafts, pits and dilapidated facilities here that remind you of this time. Mining flourished especially in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when silver, lead, zinc and other metals were mined. The region's economy was heavily influenced by mining, and many people found work here.
