The ptarmigan is a relict from the Ice Age and has adapted perfectly to its high alpine habitat over tens of thousands of years. The ptarmigan's call, a harsh, wooden creaking sound, can be heard several hundred meters away and often betrays its presence without being seen. They are really difficult to recognize because they adapt to nature, i.e. the seasons, in color and the small mountain chickens are also very shy. We were very lucky to be able to observe them here for a long time, even with their young.
