The Candanchú ski resort in summer is an outstanding starting point for hiking and mountaineering routes in the Canfranc Valley, near the port of Somport, in the mythical passage of the Camino de Santiago Aragonese between France and Spain. A spectacular and entertaining mountain route is the ascent to the summit of La Zapatilla by the via ferrata on the north face, it has a maximum difficulty of III (one step) and a long route of II in a dizzying environment. The summit of La Zapatilla (2,252 m) appears on some maps as Puntas de Esper and is clearly identifiable from the Candanchú car park by its silhouette in the shape of an inverted shoe sole. The line of the via ferrata first runs diagonally across the base of the sole and then the heel through the center to the top, it is aerial and spectacular. The approach to the beginning of the cable is simple and short, but it has an awkward section at the end due to loose stone. The path leaves the car park towards the Col de Causiat along the old path of the Senda Pyrenees and at the height of the large pond where water is stored for the ski slopes, it continues along the paved track where skaters train in summer and in winter it is a circuit of Nordic Ski. The path enters the La Rinconada circus and goes up the slope on the right following a line of wooden posts at medium height that lead to the bottom of the Canal de la Zapatilla. In this section, the stone milestones that mark the path along the slope of the canal appear.
