During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) it was a Muslim cemetery for fighters of North African origin. Later his remains were transferred to the San Amaro Cemetery, where a plaque that commemorates him can still be seen. In 1957 the bodies were repatriated. Today, its walls are adorned with texts that refer to the city, in Latin, Greek, Arabic, Gaelic and Old Castilian. That is why we now call it House of Words.
