Lauri Rapala (1905 - 1974) was a Finnish angler. In 1936 he developed the first wobbler, later named after him, from a cork. He fashioned the outside of the fish bait out of the tinfoil from cheese boxes and chocolate bars. Having no varnish available to provide a protective layer, he melted useless photo negatives over the wobbler. His first wobbler still exists today. This lure has a dark top, golden flanks and a lighter belly. Rapala wobblers are still among the best wobblers in the world today. Rapala wobblers are made of either balsa wood or plastic.
