Schelch is the name given to historical ship types that were once common on the Main and Werra[1] with an uncovered hold, a length of 12 to 20 meters and a load capacity of 400 to 1200 kilograms.[ Models of Schelchen can be viewed at the Shipping and Shipbuilding Museum in Wörth am Main, among other places. In addition to the Schelchen, the Frankensauen were also common on the Main.de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schelch

The community of Knetzgau am Main was known for the manufacture of such barges in the 18th and 19th centuries. Many residents made a living from shipbuilding or as boatmen and raftsmen. All Main boatmen between Lichtenfels and Würzburg used such Schelche. For example, wine from Leinach was shipped to Würzburg via Zellingen and Erlabrunn with the "Mainschelch".[4] In the middle of the 19th century, this trade lost importance.Source:de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schelch
