    Poet, educator, nurturer of Lithuania, one of the followers of Bishop Motiejus Valančius in the work of spreading sobriety and bookkeeping, priest Silvestras Gimžauskas was born in 1845. Kirdeikiai (Linkmeni county). in 1876 graduated from the Vilnius Seminary for Priests. 1877-1878 continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, but dropped out due to illness. in 1890 prepared the first patriotic Lithuanian appeal, printed in the USA, in which he urged his Lithuanian brothers not to send their children to non-Lithuanian schools, to love and defend the Lithuanian language. He published poems and publicist books. He worked as a vicar in Želudka (Lyda district, Gudija), Žiežmariai, Vidiškės. Since 1883 Kietaviškių, 1884–1893. - Pastor of Valkinkai. He had set up an underground hiding place for the Lithuanian press in Žiežmariai. He also took books from here while working in other Vilnius parishes. While working in Vilnius parishes, he was an active educator, distributor of the banned Lithuanian press, fosterer of Lithuania, opposed to Polonization. He was particularly active in organizing press distribution in Valkininkai: he patronized about 50 booksellers and press distributors, created secret schools of drafters, supported them in every way, controlled their work. Valkininkai became the largest Lithuanian press distribution center in the entire Vilnius province. in 1893 transferred as a vicar to Giedračius, later to Bagaslaviškis (as an altar boy). Died in 1897 in Warsaw (Poland), where he had gone to be treated for stone disease. Buried in Poland, grave unknown.
