Essing without a bridge - a horse without harness! The bridge has been there "as long as one remembers."
The bridge tower bears Gothic features, but the bridge certainly dates back to the town's founding.
The bridge has retained its construction and appearance over the centuries.
According to early engravings, it once had more bays; today there are still three:
Two water bays and one land bay.
The 46-meter-long bridge in Essing is today an admired historical monument,
    a carpenter's honor, with its dramatic landscape backdrop, a painter's bridge, a photographer's bridge.
The bridge tower still has a shingled tent roof.
A slanted-roofed external staircase leads up to the two-story apartment.
The passage in the tower has a rounded arch on the Altmühl side and a pointed arch on the market side.
The only public flood marker, dating from 1784, is located at the Bodenstein (ground stone) at the exit. When the bridge tower no longer served any practical purpose, but instead, along with the two gate towers, only burdened the market coffers, it was sold in 1828.
