On the old caravan route from Antalya to Konya

The word caravansary comes from the Persian language. It is understood in most modern languages.

The first caravanserai emerged in the late 10th century in Central Asia. Military fortifications were increasingly taking over economic and religious functions there, evolving into defensive hostels.

The sultans of the Rum-Seljuk Turks built a network of caravanserais especially in the 13th century in Anatolia. The distance from each other was about 30 to 40 kilometers. This corresponded to the daily needs of a caravan. They lost their function only in the 20th century.

Caravansaries were massive fortifications with stone walls and iron-studded gates. The floor plan usually corresponded to a square or rectangle, occasionally an octagon.

They had a large courtyard surrounding the arcaded building. The ground floor housed stables for animals and shops. Upstairs, if available, the quarters were for the travelers.

The original Seljuk caravanserai had workshops, medical care, baths, kitchens, tea and coffee shops. To the side of the entrance gate was the guard's quarters, often a prayer room. Some stations had small mosques in the courtyard.

The services on the caravan routes were free, only in the cities fees had to be paid.

A long and fast descent to the caravanning is followed by a seemingly endless climb on the way back. So definitely use the stay for regeneration and strengthening.
