The castle was built around 1733 (or 1740) by Maria Anna Katharina Countess von Montfort (née T'Serclaes von Tilly), a great-granddaughter of Johann T'Serclaes Tilly, when she was retiring from nearby Breitenegg Castle, with which her great-grandfather had once been enfeoffed.
