In Kuusamo, the Myllykoski hydropower plant on the River Kuusinkijoki has been decommissioned following its acquisition by the local association Kuusinkijoki Kuntoon ry. This initiative aims to restore the river's natural flow, benefiting the threatened brown trout population by providing access to extensive spawning grounds. Additionally, water will be redirected to the previously dry Piilijoki River, enhancing its potential as a fishing destination.
