Father Lambertus is the monastic name for Paul Vandermeulen. He had to interrupt his priestly training because the First World War broke out. He volunteered as a stretcher bearer. Father Lambertus devoted himself to the Flemish soldiers at the front and therefore played an important role in the Flemish emancipation struggle. In 1919 he was ordained a priest and served as army chaplain. He was also a celebrated leader among the student youth. In 1932 he unexpectedly made his entry into the
