A Ruhstein, also called Ruhestein, Ruhbank, Grubstock, Gruhe, Gruhbank, Krugstatt or Gruegstatt as well as Raststein, is a single or multi-part bench that was used by porters to rest in earlier times. While there were originally similar devices made of wood, the benches that have survived to this day are made of stone. As witnesses to earlier forms of transport and old traffic routes, many benches are now classified as small or field monuments.[Wikipedia]
The installation of the sandstone benches has been known since the 15th century.
In Baden-Württemberg, the Ruhbänke are usually referred to as "Gruhen".
