Rossgrabenbrücke a reinforced concrete bridge from 1932 with a span of 82m

In 1932/33, two concrete bridges designed by Robert Maillart were built between Hinterfultigen and Elisried during the construction of a new improvement road, which are now admired as masterpieces of a brilliant engineer.

Thanks to the brilliant bridge builder Robert Maillart (1872–1940), the Schwarzenburgerland became the focus of interest among civil engineers as a Bernese borderland. Although deep valleys, so-called "ditches", with often wild waters had to be overcome, the local population maintained active relationships with the market town of Schwarzenburg. This was reflected in the Fultiger dialect, which has more similarities with that of the Schwarzenburgers than with that of the closer residents of Rüeggisberg.

Until the road was built in 1932/33, historically documented paths led through the ditches. They were often difficult to accomplish. That changed with the newly laid out road and the two bridges designed by Robert Maillart, which span the Schwandbachgraben and the Rossgraben. His delicate constructions were very controversial at the time, because aesthetic sensibilities demanded “solid” constructions, and massive buildings were perceived as beautiful. Fortunately, the elegant buildings have prevailed, having been added to the inventory of art antiquities in 1984 - at just over fifty years old. [Source: schweizmobil.ch]

If only the ups and downs weren't so bad here. Still, it's very beautiful.
