Auxiliary multi-purpose dam constructed by Osaka Prefecture. Construction started in 1967 and completed in 1981. The dam body is curved like an arch dam, but structurally it is a gravity concrete dam with a height of 62.0m. The purpose is flood control in the Ishikawa basin, irrigation water supply to cultivated land, and water supply to Kawachinagano City and Tondabayashi City. It is the largest dam in Osaka Prefecture that has been completed so far.

There are promenades and campsites in the surrounding area, making it one of Okukawachi's recreational areas. Migratory birds can also be seen flying in, and mandarin ducks are especially famous, and are registered as "Takihata Dam's mandarin ducks" in the Shinkawachi Nagano Eight Views. On the rock wall on the right bank of the downstream part of the dam, two carved Buddha statues, Jizo Bodhisattva and Kannon Bodhisattva, are carved and can be seen from the embankment. There is Takihata 48 Waterfalls upstream of the dam, and together they have been selected as one of Osaka's 100 best green spots.
