Hæreidsmoen Burial Field

The Iron Age burial site here contains around 400 burial sites, making it one of the most important burial sites from that period in western Norway. Findings of remains of swords and shields, axes, pots and various pieces of jewelery provided the archaeologists with important insights into the way of life at that time. Why there are so many graves here is only speculation, but it is believed that the local grave site was on an important route connecting western and eastern Norway.

There is a signposted circular route about 5km that leads past the graves to the lake and along the Eio back to Eidfjord.

A hike from the town of Eidfjord up to one of Norway's large burial grounds from the Viking era is definitely worth it. Anyone who is open to spirituality will feel a special place of power here.
