The temple was built by the Reformed Franciscans who came to Sandomierz in 1672, where they started their pastoral activity with the approval of Andrzej Trzebnicki, the bishop of Kraków. The church was consecrated on October 24, 1690 by Bishop Stanisław Szembek, a Cracow suffragan. The founders were: Aleksander Lubomirski, starost of Sandomierz and voivode of Kraków, Jan Kurdwanowski, judge of the town, Piotr Opocki, castellan of Wiślicki and Marcin Dębicki, chamberlain of Sandomierz.

Many of the nobility, townspeople and peasants also contributed to the construction of the temple with their sacrifices. a two-bay chancel, a three-bay nave. On the south side there is a three-wing monastery (today's Retreat House), and on the west side - a courtyard surrounded by a wall with chapels where the Stations of the Cross used to be.
