The village suffered significant loss of life during World War I & II. In November 1944, the German army set up heavy artillery between the houses of the village to stop the advancing Soviets. In the battle of November 1 and 2, the Red Army gained control of the settlement and then the settlement was used as a base for the siege of Budapest. Until the end of the siege, military hospitals, convalescents and maintenance sites operated in Örkény. In February 1945, the village's land distribution committee was formed, and the old large estates were distributed among the 400 claimants hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96rk%C3%A9ny
