Songpan Ancient City Wall is an ancient building that embodies the historical and cultural characteristics of the Han nationality in the Ming Dynasty. It is located in Songpan County, Sichuan Province.
The ancient city wall of Songpan was built in 1379 (the 12th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty) by adding bricks and expanding it on the basis of the Tucheng of Songzhou in the Tang Dynasty. The total length of the city wall is 6.2 kilometers. It adopts the method of rammed earth and stones inside and bricks outside. The highest point is 12.5 meters and the thickest part is 31.5 meters.
The east, south, and north gates of Songpan ancient city wall are well preserved, and there are urns, and various relief patterns are clearly visible. The east gate is 6 meters wide, 5.8 meters high, and 22 meters thick; the south gate is 6 meters wide, 8.8 meters high, and 30 meters thick; the north gate is 6 meters wide, 5.8 meters high, and 31.5 meters thick.
In 2001, Songpan Ancient City Wall was announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
