The Neustadt monastery was located on a ford on the Main. In the monastery book of the Diocese of Würzburg by Georg Link, there is an early mention of the ferry in 1768.
There were later two ferries between Neustadt and Erlach, a large passenger ferry (Schelch), later with a motor, and a car ferry for carts and vehicles of all kinds. The car ferry hung on a rope that led over the Main at a height of about 25 m. On the Neustadt bank there was a steel tube mast with a diameter of 1 m, which was about 25 m high and secured on three sides with thick holding ropes. A support of the same type stood in Erlach in the front garden of the then and last ferryman, Josef Ullrich. The pedestrian bridge was inaugurated in 1971; the ferry had served its purpose.
