This unique museum, which opened its doors in 1993, was housed in a former monastery. The museum was awarded the Austrian Museum Prize just one year after its opening. You will discover remarkable Tyrolean art treasures, covering a period of nine centuries. This includes both Gothic and Romanesque masterpieces and religious folk art.

The Augustinian Museum is housed in the former Augustinian hermit monastery in Rattenberg, whose central rooms - monastery church, Hofer chapel, Ecce Homo chapel and Gothic cloister - are among the outstanding examples of Tyrolean architecture. A description of the museum is therefore to a considerable extent identical with a description of the monastery, its history and its architectural gems, which are no less "exhibits" than the collection assembled here.
