Tollboden is Tønsberg's oldest brick building and was built in 1827.

The Tønsberg Sailors' Association took over Tollboden on July 1, 2005. The Tønsberg Maritime History Center was established here and was officially inaugurated on May 22, 2007. Tønsberg Maritime History Center provides an overview of Tønsberg's seafaring and whaling history.
