As the Colorado Trail gains elevation in this area, you pass through more and more aspen groves. All the while, you're mostly stuck in the trees while traveling on the CT between Buena Vista and Salida. This spot on the trail is nearly the high point of the section, and it offers views to the east from a bald on the side of the mountain.

The trail also flattens out/becomes more rolling here. The grades aren't as steep, and it's much easier to run. The footing is pretty good, too.
