The Jahn memorial is located on the 960 meter high Jauerling. The memorial is dedicated to the former “gymnastics father Jahn”, Johann Friedrich Ludwig Christoph Jahn (1778-1852). The pedagogue is considered to be the initiator of the German gymnastics movement. His intention at the time, however, was to use sport to prepare German youth for the fight against the Napoleonic occupation.

Hiking

On the Jauerling, a mountain on the edge of the Wachau in Lower Austria, there is a memorial stone for "gymnastics father" Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778-1852). Several plaques with a sign, the shape of which is reminiscent of swastikas, are attached to the monument.

The Jahn monument with the old and very well maintained sports facility and the clubhouse is worth a visit, the Turnverein Spitz an der Donau organizes a sports event at least once a year.
