Alt Rehse is a village and district of the town of Penzlin, located on the western shore of Lake Tollense. The village ensemble is a rare example of rural architecture built during the Nazi era, architecturally and historically unique in Germany.

The village itself is of Slavic origin. After the Germanic inhabitants migrated away during the Migration Period, the medieval tribes of the Redarii and Tollensi, members of the Wilzi tribal confederation, who were later united in the Liutizi confederation, settled here. The name "Rehse" could derive from Old Slavic and mean "place by the water."
