La Plata peak stands at 14,344 feet and is one of the rockier peaks in the Sawatch (it's similar to peaks in the Mosquito Range). There are a few different routes to the top, but the only route with an established trail basically the whole way is the La Plata Peak Trail from the north side.

Another popular route up La Plata comes from the northeast via Ellingwood Ridge. This is a class 3/4 ridge scramble with real exposure the majority of the way. This should only be attempted by those with alpine route finding experience and climbing skills.
