    Hiking

Standing at 14,141 feet, South Elbert is considered an unofficial summit on Mount Elbert's ridge. This peak does not fit the "300 foot rule" and is thus not considered its own peak, but it still offers incredible unobstructed views. The Black Cloud Trail crosses over the summit on its way to Mount Elbert.

The 300 foot rule states that a peak must be at least 300 feet higher than the saddle between it and the next summit to be considered an individual mountain peak.
