This church is dedicated to Sever, a prince from Syria who came to Agde in the 5th century and founded a monastery. After its destruction it was rebuilt in 1499. The statue of Saint Sever can be found in the niche above the entrance portal. In 1922 part of the vault collapsed. During the renovations in the 1950s, the interior of the church underwent major changes.
The church houses an exceptionally beautiful 16th-century polychrome wooden figure of Christ and an organ built by Puget, classified as a Historical Monument.
The place of worship in the heart of the Quartier de la Marine is the Fishermen's Church and the Fishermen's Festival is celebrated here every year at the beginning of July.
