The Sanctuary of Santa María Magdalena in Novelda is one of the jewels of modernism in the province of Alicante. Built taking as inspiration the work of Gaudí, by D. José Sala Sala, the work has become one of the most important modernist buildings in the Valencian Community.

The church building was designed by a former student of the Spanish architect Gaudí. The building is built in the Catalan modernist style. The church is located on a rocky plateau next to the ruins of the old castle 'La Mola' of Novelda. The church has a pot shape, which symbolizes a pitcher and is made up of brown stone walls with unevenly round natural stones from the area.

Construction of the church began in 1918 and was carried out in three phases. Construction was completed in 1946.
