The first written mention of the village dates back to 1265. The village belonged to local lords Sennyeyov. In 1600 there were 17 serf manors, later the number of inhabitants changed. Around 1,400 people currently live here. The municipal coat of arms - a silver anchor with a golden eye in the blue shield, crowned by two golden branches - was created based on a seal impression from 1787. The most important monument is the mansion of the Sennyey family, completed in 1781, in the Baroque style, later modified into today's Rococo-Classical form. In the 19th century the building underwent further modifications. It was damaged during World War II. In the 20th century, this mansion housed a school, grocery store, warehouse and soldiers' quarters. The building gradually fell into disrepair. In 2007–2013, this one-storey building with a layout in the shape of the letter U with three wings and an entrance was built - the mansion of the Sennyey family Hungary and Slovakia. The north and south wings still need repairs. A museum (currently with an exhibition dedicated to the Sennyey family) and a library have been set up in the restored central part, and various cultural and social events are held in the hall. It is surrounded by a 3.5 hectare historical park, where ash, sycamore and other rare trees more than a century old grow. In the northern part of the park is the Marienkapelle - a neo-Gothic building from 1854 (originally a garden pavilion).
