Legend has it that in 1070 a gentleman named Hernando de Azcón met the virgin in Roques Trencadas, for which the nobleman decided to build a hermitage in the place. It was his descendant, Pedro de Azcón, who enlarged the church. When he was praying in the hermitage, two young men entered and began a conversation, in the course of which the nobleman communicated his intentions. The boys offered to take care of the matter and the works advanced in an incomprehensibly fast way until they gave shape to the current temple.
When the nobleman wanted to pay them for their work, they refused to accept any remuneration, never to be heard from again. Local tradition suggests that they were sent by God himself through the intercession of their mother. Since then, the sanctuary, made up of the priory residence and the church whose main altar houses a delicate Renaissance altarpiece that narrates the Life of the Virgin.
