Hiking

Landwehr, Landgraben, and Landhege refer to boundary marking or border security structures and enclosures of settlements with the right to enclose or protect entire territories. These settlement defense structures mostly date back to the High and Late Middle Ages and, in some cases, are over 100 kilometers long. However, comparable earthworks have been mentioned since antiquity.[1] The Roman Limes is the best-known example of an early landwehr.
