The larch trees on the Eulenwiesen enable a protected variety of flowers (pasqueflower, blue gentian, arnica, ...) and provide space for brushwood and dwarf shrubs. These "Larchbergmahder" were created by slash and burn. Due to the flooding in the valley floor, the farmers needed new pastures and were looking for them at almost 1,700 meters above sea level. While spruces and pines burned, the larches only blazed on the outside and sprout again the next spring. Such natural sites are only preserved through the extensive care and management of the farmers. Once a year, the owl meadows are mowed with a hand mower and scythe.
