    Tips

There are no tips from the author of the attraction, so I took the liberty of adding a few pieces of information about this town.

Swornegacie is a village of exceptional beauty. Exceptional not only in its name. It comes from two words: "Gać" is an old Polish word for fascine, a bundle of brushwood, also a dam, a embankment. Gacić meant to cover, to dress, to seal the walls of the Brzozowe Zacisze hut in the background with moss, leaves or straw, to insulate. The old Polish "sworny" meant in agreement, sworka is a union, sworność is unanimity, agreement, compliance. The old Polish word swory gives rise to today's embankment as well as valve, compactness, keystone.

Swornegacie means compact embankments. This is where the proper Kashubian name came from - SWORNEGACE. In time, the name was adopted in accordance with the national spelling – Swornegacie, this is the spelling of the name of the town included in the Bydgoszcz index of towns from 1925.

The village is located in the picturesque region of southern Kashubia, in the area of Zaborski Landscape Park. Surrounded by pine forests and numerous lakes, it lies directly on the northern shore of Lake Karsińskie and - through the Brda valley - touches a smaller lake.

The village also has a rich past with interesting historical events. The first information about Swornegacie comes from 1272 and is related to the Augustinian order, which was supposedly founded by Świętopełek in 1265. This first mention can be found in a Latin document of Pope Gregory X from 15.07.1272, which entrusts the Augustinian monastery settled here to the care of the Chełmno bishops. In 1275, the monks already have their own church here and Duke Mestwin II becomes their benefactor, granting the monks estates and privileges. However, the monks did not have peace here and therefore, with the permission of Wenceslas II, they left this place and in 1303 they merged with the Cistercian monastery in Oliwa. The Augustinians then transferred all their properties to the Oliwa monastery, namely: the villages of Swornegacie, Dąbrówka, Zwerynec Square, Lake Nechor, forests and four lakes – Karsińskie, Witoczno, Długie and Zielone. In 1309, the Cistercians exchanged these properties with the Teutonic Knights for lands located closer to Oliwa. In place of the Augustinian monastery buildings, a fortified Teutonic farm manor was built in Swornegacie. swornegacie.com/swornegacie-historia.html
