A gate in the northern part of the defensive wall.
Fragments of city walls (14th/15th century). The city was founded around 1291. At the beginning, its borders were surrounded by a wooden palisade with 2 gates from the east and west. In the first quarter of the 14th century, the town was enlarged and then wood was replaced with granite stone and brick, with the predominance of the latter. After the works were completed, the total length of the walls was 1600 m, and there were 7 towers and 36 lookouts on them. In addition to the city walls, moats and double earth ramparts guarded the city. The city was opened by 3 gates: Stone, High and Mill. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the defensive walls were extended and drawbridges appeared, and the height of the walls was 8 meters. From the beginning of the 18th century, the liquidation of the fortifications began. At the beginning of the 19th century, the gates were dismantled, and over time, houses, outbuildings and farm buildings began to be added to the remains of the defensive walls. In the second half of the 19th century, on the site of the former moat (in the N-W and S parts), which was leveled, a park with walking paths was created.
