This small lighthouse was relocated to this current location after it had served as part of a complex system of coloured lights to guide ships safely through the river Tay.

The Telford beacon was once placed elsewhere to the entrance to the old dock. When the Tay bridge was built the docks were filled in and the area redeveloped. After several years the beacon was finally moved from its original home back to the riverside.
