1173 first documentary mention

Around the year 1800, the district administrator Peter Alexander of Itzenplitz built a manor house above the Großer Behnitzer See. In 1866, after continued mismanagement and high indebtedness, ownership passed to the Borsig family.

Under the leadership of Albert Borsig, the farmhouse, to which more buildings are added on the property, will be transformed into an agricultural model farm that has been used for industrial-scale agriculture. In 1923 the farm had reached a size of 2700 ha, on which precursors of organic farming were already operating.
