Anyone who uses the Finkenborn hiking trail now and then knows it: the so-called Katz Grotto. Two benches invite hikers and forest walkers to take a breather. In the back a protective wall, the view can then wander relaxed down the slope. A relief showing deer is embedded in the walls. On the two posts to the left and right of the grotto, the year of construction and the initial of the initiator, "L.K.", are given. This year the Katz grotto is 100 years old. The hikers owe them to a noble but largely unknown donor.
Namely, the hiking site was named after a certain Louis Katz. He lived at Bäckerstraße 49 and was a trimmers by profession. "Trimmers manufactured and sold textile products such as tassels, borders, fringes and cords for decorating upholstered furniture, curtains and wall hangings," explains museum director Dr. Gesa Snell.
