The archaeological site is located on the highest point of the Lange Berg (Long Mountain), which takes its name, Höhe Burg (Castle Hill), from the fortified settlement. Based on the style of the fortification, it is an Old Slavic refuge castle dating from the 7th to 9th centuries. It was only during this period that the Slavs built castles on hilltops.
