From a historical point of view, a building that housed the Benedictine Congregation attached to the Abbey of Saint-Thibéry was first mentioned in 990.

In 1187 "Bernard Aton donated everything he owned in the estate, city of Agde, its outbuildings... he made this donation in front of the altar of the Church of Notre Dame du Grau" (HGL, T. 5, L. XX, p.5) .

It was not until 1584 that Henry I of Montmorency decided to build a larger building on this site and settle the Capuchin Fathers there.

A price of 1609 informs us of the construction of this new building with the materials available on site. In 1790 it was sold as a national good. On this occasion, an inventory could be consulted that gave us an idea of the Capuchin possessions at that time, but also informed us about the organization of the building.

In 1793 the choir of the building was destroyed, the tombs were desecrated. Since 1802, after being used as a prison, it has been in the hands of private owners who have maintained and renovated it until 1873, when it was bought by the Agde city council.
