On the Mont Saint-Joseph, above the village of Lagineste, a chapel was built from 1873 on the initiative of a parish priest. Since 1881 pilgrimages have been held annually in honor of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of workers. This pilgrimage corresponded to a nineteenth-century revival of devotion to Joseph and the Virgin Mary, regarded by the Church as models of Christian life. Pope Pius IX declared Joseph the patron saint of the Catholic Church in 1870 and set his name day on March 19.
