In the village of Dziemiany (German: Sophienwalde) located in the Kościerzyna poviat, in the area of the emerging SS training ground Sophienwalde Bauleitung der Waffen-SS und Polizei Westpreussen, a labor camp called SS-Lager Sophienwalde was established in autumn 1943.

On February 10, 1945, 394 women set off from Dziemiany in a marching column. Their "death march" was led from Dziemiany through Bytów towards Lębork. On February 17, 347 women arrived in the village of Godętowo, 83 km away from Dziemiany, where they were joined with columns of prisoners evacuated from the Burggraben camp (a branch of KL Stutthof). On March 9, the column reached the vicinity of the village of Chynowie near Lębork, where they were liberated by the Russians. The commandant of the camp, W. Schulz, and the escorting SS men were shot. No more than 250 Jewish women survived the liberation.
