Niendorf an der Stecknitz is a beautiful little town in the Duchy of Lauenburg district

in Schleswig-Holstein.

According to Wikipedia, there are 26 places named Niendorf (with an ie) and 14 (with an i),

but each place is special, just like this one.

The village was first mentioned in a document in the Isfried Partition Treaty of 1194. Niendorf was a manor house for a long time, but the Hanseatic city of Lübeck was the supreme sovereign. As a result of the 1747 settlement in Hanover, the town fell to the Duchy of Lauenburg. The lords of the manor were the Scharpenbergs (in the Middle Ages and again around 1640),

the Barons of Albedyll, and finally Maximilian Theodor Metzener,

who sold the estate to the district in 1928.

In 1928, the rural community was merged with the manor district. In 1993, the town won the title of "Most Beautiful Village in the Duchy of Lauenburg District."
