At the beginning of the 20th century, the former fishing village of Grau d'Agde at the mouth of the Hérault grew in importance as a holiday resort. The Sacré-Cœur church, consecrated in 1903, is also considered the church of fishermen. The elongated, single-nave church interior in the neo-Romanesque style is closed off by a wooden arched ceiling, which is intended to be reminiscent of a ship's hull. The long sides are divided into three axes by pilaster strips and arched windows with depictions of saints. A round-arched altar niche with a pilaster frame closes off the church interior to the west.

In 1933 the bell tower was built in its present form with round-arched double sound hatches and a flat pyramidal roof.

The interior of the church was renovated in 2020.
