Waldnerturm//Vierritterturm - Hemsbach/Odw. 🚴‍♂️The 10-meter-high Waldnerturm – also called the Vierritterturm – stands on a 267-meter-high saddle east of Hemsbach (Baden-Württemberg) and offers beautiful views over the Rhine plain, into the Odenwald forest, and all the way to the Palatinate Forest.
In the mid-19th century, the 20-hectare property was purchased by the noble Waldner von Freundstein family, and the tower was built in the style of a keep from local granite. It is also called the Vierritterturm because of the knight figures with severed heads attached to its four corners.
The tower, with its original attached kitchen, served as an event venue and resting place for aristocratic hunting parties and was later used as a weekend retreat for a youth organization from Mannheim until 1933.
