At the beginning of the 20th century, the patron Count Wilhelm Droste zu Vischering agreed to replace the old, dilapidated St. Peter's Church with a new building in the Baroque style, taking over the interior design with the Baroque altars. The Paderborn architect Franz Mündelein was commissioned to plan the project. The construction work was carried out by the Marsberg building contractor H. Tegethoff.

The foundation stone was laid on July 16, 1911 and the church was blessed by Dean Brockmann on November 12, 1912. The ceremonial consecration by Bishop Karl Joseph Schulte took place in 1915.

The church, built in the neo-Baroque style, was adapted to the magnificent Baroque altars. The hexagonal floor plan of the church is accompanied by chapel buildings in a 3/6 end. Between the double tower façade lies a short, two-bay nave with side entrance bays. The towers have Baroque accents.

During a renovation in the years 1973 to 1975, the previously light gray exterior color of the church was replaced by the original yellow color.

The baroque altars come from the sculptor's workshop of Heinrich Papen from Giershagen; the high altar dates from 1670, as does the baptismal font with alabaster columns. The Marian altar with the alabaster relief of St. Mary and the sandstone figures of St. Agatha and St. Anthony was completed in 1736.[4]

The oldest of the five bells bears the year 1684.
