The Trostburg is located in natural terrain on an eastern slope on a rocky outcrop above Waidbruck. The castle was first mentioned around 1173, at that time still as the seat of a "Cunrat de Trosperch" (Conrad von Trostberg), who came from the lords of Kastelruth. Around 1290 Trostburg passed from the Lords of Velthurns to the Counts of Tyrol, who subsequently pledged it to the Lords of Wolkenstein. For around 600 years, the complex remained in the possession of the Counts of Wolkenstein-Trostburg, one of the most important noble families in Tyrol. The late medieval poet-composer Oswald von Wolkenstein, who belonged to this noble family, grew up here at this time (1377 - 1445).

The route is very close to optimal. You have to drive it several times to take in all the impressions.
