Lost Lake is a glimmering blue giant inlaid on the tundra. Most mountain bikers will approach it from the south end, as that provides the most rideable ascent. From this perspective, continuing straight ahead takes you down to the lakeshore whereas the rightmost trail takes you alongside the lake and eventually on to a descent from its far end.

Technically, Lost Lake is also the point where two trails — the Lost Lake Trail, which starts near Seward, and the Primrose Trail, which starts farther north — come together. However, in everyday use, people often ride both trails together and so may refer to the entire trail as "Lost Lake," while the trailheads are referred to as Lost Lake (southern trailhead) and Primrose (northern trailhead).
