The refuge was extensively restored in the summer of 2018. Here are five large panels in typical Hainich leaf shape, the moving history of the site, which began in the 11th century with a hostel for travelers. Ideal for a little break.

The IhlefeldThe history of the Ihlefeld begins around 1110: The brotherhood of St. Anthony was given a forest area in which monks built the "Eilfelden" hermitage. Soon this played an important role as "Walpert" - as a place of pilgrimage. In 1443 the sanctuary was acquired by the St. Catherine's Monastery in Eisenach and used primarily as an economic courtyard. The Reformation and the Peasants' War ended the monastic life in Hainich. Ihlefeld now came into the possession of those from Hopfgarten. In 1964, due to the establishment of the Weberstedt military training area, the last buildings in the village of Ihlefeld were demolished. Remains of wells and walls can still be found in the Ihelefeld desert. A shelter was built on the basement of a former forest house in 1995.Source: nationalpark-hainich.de/de/ausflugsziel/historische-orte/ihlefeld.html
